Consistency: The Key To Academic Success

Image
Consistency is essential for academic success. The rationale is that consistency forms the habit that dictate our everyday actions. This habit in turn leads to success. Similar to how young children thrive on consistency and structured routines, students who organise, develop and commit to a fixed study schedule will largely be able to achieve the results they want.      With that being said, simply putting in the hours does not produce a productive session. To yield positive results, students must combine consistent habits with effective study strategies. Common methods include tailoring study materials to individual learning styles, keeping distractions away, having a comprehensive set of notes and planning a fixed study schedule. Additionally, students can make the most of their time by using assessment books.      How to select the correct assessment books 📚      Understand your child’s needs: Instead of buying overly advanced assessment books, consider your child’s academic s

How to solve a problem sum involving fractions? Recommended for P5 & P6

Upper Primary Maths Problem Sum 👉 Mr Tan had 630 chickens and ducks. He sold 4/9 of his chickens and 1/3 of his ducks. If the number of chickens and the number of ducks sold were the same, find a) the number of chickens he had. b) the number of ducks unsold.  Firstly, we are told that the fraction part of chickens sold is 4/9 whereas the fraction part of ducks sold is 1/3. We can convert 1/3 to an equivalent fraction by multiplying the numerator n the denominator by 4. Thus 4/9 of the sold chickens has the same quantity as 1/3 or 4/12 of the sold ducks.  Have you solved the problem sum?  Here’s the solution:  For tuition enquiries, please contact the friendly Maths tutor @ 8614-2737.  Telegram 📬  https://t.me/tutorkaren The above problem sum is adapted from Solving Challenging Mathematical Problems by Dr Fong.  #maths

Explore A Child’s Learning Potential With Private Tuition

Image
Jackie Wong   M ost people conveniently associate the need for  private tuition  with poor academic results. In actual fact, there are good reasons why outstanding students should engage themselves in tuition sessions as well. While these children have demonstrated their academic excellence through their examination results, relying purely in learning in class can severely limit their learning potential. In a classroom setting, due to the high students to teacher ratio, teachers are often forced to progress the syllabus at a pace that allows breathing space for poorer students to catch up. Such method become a hindrance to quick learners who have understood what they have studied, but see their enthusiasm to advance curbed by the lack of proper guidance. Forced Braking After a prolonged period of slowing down and waiting, students may begin to lose their interest and drive. Their passion for knowledge will slowly dwindle into complacency as they realise they are better than their peers

Tuition in the comfort of your home

When your child has not performed up to your expectations after enrolling in a tuition centre, it’s time to consider employing home tutors. Could it be the number of students per class is big that your child does not get the individual attention from the tutor? Maybe your child is reserved about clarifying what he does not understand in a class.  Wouldn’t it be good if the tutor comes to your house? In a one-to-one tuition session, your child is more likely to focus better on the subject. Although the home tuition rate is higher than the centre’s, you will still save on transport costs n parking. There is no  need to commute out of the house and your child can have tuition in the comfort of your home.  Below is a testimonial from a secondary three student taking English under the tutelage of Ms Karen Chan: “My tuition teacher is a very good tutor as she has a great sense of responsibility. She ensures her students understand by engaging them in deep questions. When I face a question th
